EXPERIENCES OF PARTICiPANTS OF PAST WORKSHOPS

A singer/pedagogue (she studied classical singing, but sings in several genres)
I’ve learned a lot and I really enjoyed the 2-day workshop with Cathrine in Utrecht. Until now I’ve taught singing according to EVTS, but I’m sure I’ll be using CVT a lot more. It is
clear and works for everyone. In the meantime 8 students of mine ordered the beautiful and clear book and I only get positive reactions. Next masterclass I’ll be there again and then I want to sing too, because it looks like a unique experience. From now I experiment with my voice and I don’t feel locked up anymore by just one way of singing.

A singing teacher for School of Arts (Hogeschool van de Kunsten) / singer all genres:
A couple of things like a raised larynx, the different ways of singing and the support were explained very clear and approachable. I have got the book and CD for a year now and I feel that the content is
the best I’ve read until now. It seems like my knowledge and experience is put together in this book.

I notice that my teaching at the school is working so much faster and I don’t have to look for an answer, because CVT is so clear and lucid. In my own singing it gives me so much more space to sing in different ways. I can sing a pop song, a musical song and an aria in one row.

My sound in rhythmical music is so much better now because it doesn’t sound classical anymore. Ten years ago I wouldn’t think this was possible and many of my classical colleagues will not agree with me, but I hope they will discover this too.

A blues/rock singer:
I found the course and masterclass really
renewed and open. I work a lot with EVTS but Cathrine is more. The extremes of the voice are being explored in an exciting, fun way.

A pop/jazz singer
Cathrine’s technique got me right away and I use it with my students. Because of the direct result they became so much more confident and enthusiastic. I am convinced of a
revolution in the world of singing. I got a lot of answers to my questions and I got touched by a classical singer when he felt the freedom when he sang the high c. ‘Sing the way you like and only your opinion is important’ and the respectful approach to singers. I think that is the way to keep everyone unique.

For me this book is THE singing bible.

A classical singer (musicals in own and foreign countries)
During my time at the conservatory I learned a lot from great teachers, but there were things that you were not allowed to do, being a classical singer. But being on stage I noticed that some ‘forbidden’ sounds DID work. So Cathrine
confirmed some thoughts I had.

In the beginning I thought it was quite scary to sing in front of everyone and to let go of old images and to trust the technique. I think it’s harder to experiment being a classical singer.
But after 20 minutes with Cathrine I was in
higher atmosphere.

A conservatory student jazz singing:
I think the question:
what can I do for you is really good and so different from a conservatory, where they often have a certain ideal. Cathrine told me you can make every sound you like without any problems. I totally agree and especially the explanation about support was really great and so clear, finally! On top of that, she is a great person and that’s so important to me.

A music therapist/singer

During the workshop in CVT I’ve noticed a couple of positive points:
- This method approaches the voice through different angles, especially the
anatomical way is one I appreciate.
- It is really
practical instead of theoretical, the exercises work right away.
- You can sing in
every style.

A pop/rock singer:
I had some
eye-openers during the masterclass. Especially the vowels eh en oh in overdrive. I’ve always looked for something in my technique that made my sound more open and overdrive is exactly what I mean.

A soprano:
I’m a trained classical singer and I was always looking for other ways of singing. And this technique is so
systematic and clear, so thank you for that! I experimented with the four modes and it was fantastic! The workshop was really a great experience and inspiring for my teaching.

A pop/soul singer:
A clear method with
direct result! Since I sing with Cathrine’s method I can sing so much easier and I get less tired. I noticed that my high notes get so much easier and I’m not afraid anymore. Really great!

A pop/jazz/musical singer:
My voice is very powerful in the high part of the voice, and for years I worked on my low part. Not any teacher could help me, accept for one. The result was: great low notes, but a hurting throat. I was told this was a normal reaction! But I stopped immediately. During the workshop I was a little bit skeptical at first. But when I sang my low notes with power, I was amazed! Since then I practice with CVT everyday! I think I
reinvented my voice.
